This is what we need to bring to light. Children love and deserve both loving parents. Statistically, it appears that the family courts in the United States are biased against fathers. For example, 83% of mothers receive custody of their children in divorces. Additionally, men are awarded less support on average than mothers who are awarded support. There is also plenty of anecdotal evidence citing situations where mothers were awarded custody in spite of fathers demonstrating interest and potential to provide and care for their children.

On Fathers Day 2016 many parents will go without seeing their children as they have in past years. Either because of unjust denials, or because of an unfair, unjust and highly unconstitutional Family Court System that is currently in place. A court system built on tearing families apart calling it “Best Interest for the Child” more like best interest for Courts, FOC , CPS, and DHS. As it is a profitable business for them. This is just not limited to fathers, as many mothers suffer at the hands of family court and the practices they use as well. We are in this together. So I ask that you stand against this fatherless society brought on by same court and agencies that scream “Best Interest”. This is a fact that can be prevented by just simply standing up and taking a chance at fighting for something worth fighting for. Our children need us to be their voice so they can be heard. Do you think a scorned mother or father will voice their child’s opinion if its to see their other parent, Of course not or we wouldn’t be fighting for our children in the first place. Do you think the courts will change without people demanding change? Doubt it, it has only gotten worse and more corrupt. No longer can we be idle and silent. We must rise up and demand that our children’s rights be recognized. Remind them that the role of each parent is equal. With no strings attached Shared equal parenting time with both parents is imperative to the healthy mental, physical, and emotional development of our children. Our children deserve to be heard, they deserve to have a voice, they deserve a choice. Let’s help them with that. – VIRGINIA

In VA the standard court order includes every other weekend with one parent, normally named the non-custodial parent. The standard order does not include holidays, and even in cases where holidays are exchanged occasionally one parent is left without major holidays with their children (Such as Christmas, birthdays, etc). The non-custodial parent, normally a Father, is named a visitor in their children’s lives and restricted to 25 to 30% of yearly time with their child and then ordered to pay child support, often paying about 60% of their monthly income. Our goal is for every fit and loving parent,regardless of their gender, to be able to receive a standard court order of EQUAL custody, 50% time sharing and 50% decision making. In a world meant for equality, we still do not have equality for parents. In a census study from 1993-2014, out of 15,000 custodial parents, only less than 3,000 per year ended up being custodial Fathers. Where is the equality? Where is it stated that one gender is a better parent than the other? Why are our children suffering because the courts refuse equal time sharing? Why should the courts or a judge have the ability to pick one parent over the other, rather than have both parents equally parent the child, much like they did when conceiving the child? Will you stand up? Will you join us? Fathers, Mothers, Stepparents, Grandparents, siblings, children, Aunts, Uncles, anyone is welcome. I am a family law attorney…
and I have seen first-hand the kind of unfairness that you are complaining about and I know that you are making a very legitimate point.

Every time I sit and observe for even an hour or so in family court, I come out wondering what foreign country have I wandered into. Fathers are on the bad end of some peculiar social forces and norms at this point in our culture and even understanding that it is cultural and social — and not personal — does not make it more bearable for those who are affected. I am not going to cheerlead, or defend the system. It’s wrong and it goes on and on and on.

So, what to do?

Join forces. There is an active “Fathers’ Equal Rights” community that has only started to explore its potential for political and social influence.

One voice is a rant; many voices is public policy. All judges are ultimately accountable to the public, even those that forget that is so.

Here is contact info for local state advocates in your area, support and work with them for change.

You can begin by attending your the TFRM Rally this June 17th at your State Capitol.

There simply isn’t any other or better alternative.
